- House arrest for fighting for water
- We shall fight until water is sanctioned for farmers
- YSRCP senior leader Gurnatha Reddy
Ananthapuram: YSRCP's senior leader, Gurnatha Reddy opined that farmers of AP were being pushed into a sad state of migrating to other states to beg, under Chandrababu's governance. YSRCP's agitation for provision of water to Tundabhadra ayacut, had gained strength. But, the police imposed restriction on the leaders and also house arrested Anantha Venkatrami Reddy and Gurnatha Reddy. CPI and CPM leaders who supported the agitation were also house arrested. The leaders condemned the house arrests made just because they had asked water for the ayacut.
Speaking on this occasion, Gurnatha Reddy slammed the officers' indifference to the plea for water to Ananthapuram from MPR dam near Kalluru distributary. He complained that district officers were acting as per the instructions of Chandrababu, who gave least importance to agriculture. Criticising Babu for negligence to his responsibility of giving irrigation water to the fields, he complained that the water in the projects was being misused.
Reminding that former CM Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy had taken up Handri-Neeva project in order to save Ananthapuram that was suffering with drought, Gurnatha Reddy remarked that at least this project was not being utilised to provide water to the district. He made it clear that YSRCP would stay supportive of farmers until irrigation water was properly provided.
