Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party Honorary President YS Vijayamma said she was proud of her son, Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is on the brink of successful completion of his padayatra despite various hurdles. After starting off on 6 November, 2018, from Idupulapaya in YSR Kadapa district, YS Jagan's Praja Sankalpa Yatra reached the final stage. In an interview with Sakshi TV, YS Vijayamma spoke on various issues pertaining to AP politics. Excerpts from the interview.
"Probably this is for the first time that three people from the same family have taken up padayatra. All three of them had the same goal—to interact with the people of the State. In the YSRCP's first Plenary after the death of late Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, I had offered my son by saying he is not my son but the son of the people of the State. In response, the public has showered love upon YS Jagan. Similar to the scenario at the time of Dr YSR's padayatra, the public is in deep distress. In a bid to instill hope among the people, Dr YSR and YS Jagan have gone into the people. Despite constant fight for public issues in the Assembly, the ruling party ignored YS Jagan's words. No action has been initiated after 23 of the YSRCP MLAs defected to the TDP. Some of them were made ministers. In this context, YS Jagan decided to go on his padayatra."
"He has been moving forward while listening to public woes and instilling hope in their minds. Despite several issues and hiccups, he remained among the public unperturbed. I am proud to say that YS Jagan's padayatra continued while keeping the hope intact among the people. As a last resort, they indulged in a murder attempt on my son. By God's grace, YS Jagan survived the incident."
