Tadepalli, April 4: The death of pharmacy student who battled for life for 12 days after her suicide attempt following harassment shows that there is no safety for women under coalition government asserted YRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani.
Speaking to media here on Friday, she said, the government not taking action against the perpetrators further emboldens them which very shameful.
The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister who talks tall on women safety stand exposed in such incidents which are ever growing, the recent attack on mother and daughter being one.
The pharmacy student was harassed and driven to suicide and she specified in her note about the circumstances leading to her extreme step but there was no response from the government.
Chief Minister who visiting Polavaram has no time to console the victim undergoing treatment in Rajamahendravaram of the neighbouring district. His Deputy who spoke so high on women safety was found wanting on this occasion. The Home Minister too, who said that women can be rest assured of their safety drew a blank as the young student succumbed to her injuries and he apathy of the government, she said.
Women have no safety at home, work place or in colleges and this summarizes the governance of the coalition, she said.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who brought in Disha App and an Act has always put women welfare and safety as priority. Though the name of Disha was changed to Shakti, what effect did it have on such atrocities on women, she questioned.
The government’s inaction encourages TDP cadre as they are not touched and police are used to settle political scores instead of safeguarding women, she said.
