Visakhapatnam, April 19: YSRCP has strongly condemned the coalition government for its unethical and undemocratic manner in which they have grabbed the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) seat, depriving a BC woman of the Mayor seat by poaching and threatening corporators.
Speaking to media here on Saturday, former ministers K Kannababu, Gudivada Amarnath, and MLC Varudu Kalyani said, despite lacking numbers, the coalition trying to grab the Mayor post shows how democracy has been murdered, and a woman from the Yadav community was deprived of the high seat in VMC.
They have moved the no-confidence motion, though they did not have the required numbers. All this was done with conspiracy and cunning craft, for which Chandrababu Naidu is known for. They could arrive at the magic figure of 74 with great difficulty by pooling up all the unethical and undemocratic methods, and the victory is not worth its effort.
YSRCP corporators have put a brave front and stood their ground despite numerous pressures, and we appreciate their stand. Now they are trying to threaten those who are strongly anchored with YSRCP, and the coalition has no right to talk about moral values and credibility, as they have taken the mayor seat with money and muscle power.
Though they won the no-confidence motion in the Corporation, they lost the confidence of people, and how they manipulated the procedure has been in the full view of public glare, they said. It’s a moral victory for YSRCP as the coalition stands exposed for its corrupt practices.
We have issued a whip and 27 corporators have defied it, and we have escalated the issue to the District Collector, and due action will be taken, and will explore all options, they said.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy did not resort to such practices and poach the corporators from the opposition, which shows the contrast besides moral, ethical and democratic norms, they said.
Lokesh has been giving land on a platter to TCS and wanted to take advantage of the strength in GVMC.
