Nellore, March 17: Nellore District YSRCP President and former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy slammed Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu as an "incapable and selfish leader" for failing to secure Andhra Pradesh’s water rights. Kakani accused Chandrababu of sabotaging the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme out of envy, stalling it over the past 10 months. He criticized Chandrababu’s inability to defend the state’s interests before the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), allowing Telangana to siphon Srisailam water at 798 feet, leaving Andhra Pradesh powerless. Kakani alleged Chandrababu’s government stages dramas like the Banakacharla project and colludes with Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, pushing Rayalaseema and Nellore into drought.
Kakani contrasted Chandrababu’s tenure, marked by farmer misery and poor rainfall, with Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s vision of supplying irrigation and drinking water via the Rs. 3,825 crore scheme, approved in May 2020 to lift 3 TMC daily from Srisailam, targeting 15 TMC for Chennai and 9.6 lakh acres. However, a TDP-orchestrated NGT petition in 2020 and the EAC’s February 27, 2025, halt due to state negligence derailed it. Kakani accused Chandrababu of compromising on the Polavaram and Almatti projects, harming farmers out of vendetta, despite claiming 15 years as CM.
Kakani highlighted Chandrababu’s silence during 2014-19 on Telangana’s illegal Palamuru-Rangareddy (Rs. 35,200 crore) and Dindi (Rs. 6,190 crore) projects, linked to his "vote-for-note" case, allowing Telangana to usurp the state’s 44,000 cusecs from Srisailam, inaccessible below 880 feet. The YSRCP’s plan to transfer 58.83 TMC—15 TMC for Chennai and 8.6 TMC for Rayalaseema—via the Veligodu, Somashila, and Kandaleru reservoirs remains stalled. Kakani debunked Chandrababu’s claim of naming Nellore after Potti Sriramulu, crediting Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s May 22, 2008, GO, and mocked Eenadu for printing this "absurd lie”.
