Tirupati, March 29: Former TTD Chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy criticized the coalition government for contaminating the holly waters of Papavinasanam but running boats and has stooped to new lows.
Speaking to media here on Saturday, he said, the government has been saying that there was boats were ferried as part of combing operation in the Papavinasanam while Forest Department claimed that it was trial run.
Using the holy Papavinasanam for such expeditions is highly objectionable and many illegal activities are being carried out in the temple city, he said.
Though five days have passed there is no official version from the TTD, he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who boasts of championing the cause of Sanathana Dharma has been silent and did not speak a word about the holy water being contaminated by the boating in Papavinasam.
Chandrababu Naidu has envisaged that he would develop temple tourism by linking them and this could be seen as an attempt to convert Tirupati into a Tourist hub through boating, he alleged. The permission for Hotel Mumtaz was given by Chandrababu and again it was the coalition that has reversed the decision.
The sanctity of Tirumala is being harmed by the coalition with every passing day, he said.
Despite the ban, liquor has been freely available at Tirumala and there were arrests of persons with liquor bottles. All this is happening in spite of the presence of Excise Department atop the hill shrine. Recently there were attacks on devotees by those under the influence of liquor and ganja and the security had a tough time to hold them.
A youth had created a scene near the shrine and what action was taken, he questioned.
