Chandrababu conspiring to turn Polavaram into a barrage

Former Minister and YSRCP East Godavari District President Chelluboyina Srinivasa Venugopalakrishna

Rajamahendravaram, April 5: Former Minister and YSRCP East Godavari District President Chelluboyina Srinivasa Venugopalakrishna accused TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu of conspiring to downgrade Polavaram into a barrage. Speaking to the media here, he claimed Chandrababu compromised with the Centre to reduce the project’s height for selfish gains, jeopardizing Andhra Pradesh’s future. He warned that Chandrababu’s actions would mark him as a betrayer in history, noting that people no longer trust his lies. Venugopalakrishna questioned why Chandrababu, with TDP’s support to the Centre, fails to secure the state’s interests, citing the Jal Shakti Sangh’s clarification on Polavaram’s height.
He stated that post-bifurcation, Chandrababu relinquished Special Category Status for personal commissions, taking on Polavaram’s construction despite the Centre’s promise to build it as a national project. His chaotic policies neglected the spillway, leading to a collapsed diaphragm wall during floods, which he later blamed on YSRCP. The Centre confirms only 53% completion, not Chandrababu’s claimed 78%. The Jal Shakti Sangh’s report now caps Polavaram at 41.15 meters with Rs. 12,157.53 crore, slashing its capacity from 164 TMC to 115 TMC, threatening irrigation in multiple regions. Venugopalakrishna criticized Chandrababu’s inaction despite TDP’s leverage at the Centre, referencing PM Modi’s “ATM” remark and Pawan Kalyan’s silence.
Financially, he debunked Chandrababu’s Rs. 14 lakh crore debt claim against YSRCP, highlighting his shifting figures—down to Rs. 5.62 lakh crore per the Centre—to evade “Super Six” promises. He accused Chandrababu of deceptive tactics like P4 and false Waqf Bill propaganda against YSRCP, which opposed it in the Rajya Sabha, underscoring a pattern of prioritizing personal gain over state welfare.
