Tirupati, March 26: Former TTD Chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy has accused the coalition government of undermining Tirumala’s sanctity through a recent boating activity at the sacred Papavinasanam waters, calling it an insult to Lord Venkateswara’s devotees. He demanded TTD to clarify if it was for tourism or surveillance of illegal activities, questioning the intent. Bhumana criticized CM Chandrababu Naidu for turning Tirumala into a tourist hub, compromising its spiritual essence.
He stated a conspiracy to tarnish Tirumala’s sanctity since the coalition took power, citing the unprecedented boating trial at Papavinasanam Dam, which gained attention on social media. While TDP-aligned media claimed it was a tourism trial, Forest official Vivek said it was to monitor illegal activities. Bhumana questioned why a DFO, not senior TTD officials like the EO or JEO, addressed it, demanding details of participants, whether forest staff or tourism officials.
Bhumana raised concerns over the government’s inaction, questioning the silence of vigilance and police if illegal activities persist, as admitted by the forest official. He urged TTD to confirm its awareness of the incident and criticized Naidu’s tourism push at religious sites, arguing it degrades Tirumala’s spiritual value. He also demanded Forest Minister Pawan Kalyan explain his silence, given his jurisdiction, accusing the coalition of enabling unlawful acts and disrespecting devotees’ sentiments.
