YSRCP MP raises concern over migrant workers in Kuwait

New Delhi, Feb 13: Tirupati MP Maddila Gurumoorthy expressed concern over the hardships of migrant workers in Kuwait and sought their safety.

Indian migrant workers in Kuwait, particularly those from the Rayalaseema region, face serious hardships, including employers seizing their passports, non-payment or underpayment of wages, overcrowded and inadequate accommodations, being assigned altered job roles than promised, and incidents of violence.
To address these issues, he has written to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Ambassador of Kuwait to India, urging immediate intervention to safeguard the rights and welfare of Indian workers.
A formal representation was also submitted to the Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, seeking prompt action.
As part of these efforts, MP Gurumoorthy met with Mishal Mustafa Al-Shamali, Ambassador of Kuwait in India, to discuss these pressing concerns. The Ambassador assured that he would take up the matter with the Kuwaiti government to ensure necessary action is taken.
Additionally, considering the significant expatriate population from Tirupati and surrounding areas, MP Gurumoorthy strongly advocated for a direct flight between Kuwait and Tirupati.
The Kuwaiti authorities responded positively, confirming that two airlines currently operate from Kuwait and that they would consider this request. Furthermore, they informed that the Kuwaiti government would formally communicate with India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu, regarding this proposal.
To expedite the process, MP Gurumoorthy has also submitted a request to the Civil Aviation Minister, seeking direct flight connectivity between Kuwait and Tirupati under the Open Sky Policy with a seating capacity of 400. If both governments reach an agreement, this initiative will significantly benefit migrant workers and enhance connectivity between the two regions.
This initiative is being carried out under the leadership and guidance of YSRCP leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, with MP Meda Raghunandan Reddy also playing an active role. MP Gurumoorthy remains committed to ensuring the welfare of Indian migrant workers and improving international travel facilities for the people of Tirupati and surrounding areas.
