Tadepalli, April 7: A delegation from YSRCP party, comprising former MLA Malladi Vishnu, YSRCP Employees and Pensioners Wing State President N. Chandrasekhar Reddy and YSRCP SC Cell State Working President Kommuri Kanaka Rao met State Election Commissioner Neelam Sahni in Vijayawada to lodge a formal complaint regarding the upcoming Venkatagiri Municipal by-election. The delegation expressed serious concerns over irregularities and authoritarian tactics employed by the ruling party. They highlighted that the YSRCP had previously secured 25 councillor seats in Venkatagiri but claimed that the current government had undemocratically introduced a no-confidence motion to destabilize their position.
They accused the ruling party of conspiring to postpone the by-election, scheduled for April 9, through oppressive means and intimidation, which they argued is against the principles of democracy.
The YSRCP leaders urged the Election Commission to ensure that the by-election proceeds as planned on April 9 without any postponement. They requested strict measures, including adequate police security and CCTV surveillance, to conduct the election transparently and fairly. The delegation emphasized that the government’s misconduct and attempts to manipulate the electoral process were unprecedented in the state’s history. They cited the recent Tripurantakam election as evidence that impartial polls yield clear results, reinforcing their demand for a free and fair by-election in Venkatagiri. The leaders criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, saying that his administration fears local body elections and is resorting to desperate measures to undermine the democratic process. They called upon the Election Commission to issue clear directives to district collectors to prevent any interference and ensure an unbiased election.
